  • Carbon Quota

As part of our sustainability policy, McLays appointed CarbonQuota to independently assess the accuracy, completeness and consistency of energy use and carbon footprint calculations within the operations under our direct control. They are an independent assessor, focussing on the print and manufacturing industry.

2021 - 2022 is the first reporting year for McLays, and establishes the carbon baseline and intensity ratios for:

    • tonnes of CO2e per tonne of substrates purchased
    • tonnes of CO2e per £/million of sales revenue
    • tonnes of CO2e per metre squared of building
    • tonnes of CO2e per FTE.

The results were audited and verified by CarbonQuota, providing a carbon baseline, against which McLays can monitor energy and any carbon reduction initiatives.

Compared to the industry we operate in, as a whole, our carbon footprint and intensity ratio figures are lower than the industry average, and moving forward, our aim is to continuously improve our ratios.

  • Project Seagrass

Seagrasses are flowering plants that live in shallow sheltered areas along our coast. Estimates suggest we lose an area of seagrass around the same size as two football pitches every hour.

One of the most threatened yet overlooked ecosystems on Earth, seagrass could have a promising future thanks to its ability to absorb carbon.

Seagrass accounts for 10 per cent of the ocean’s capacity to store carbon - so called blue carbon – despite occupying only 0.2 per cent of the sea floor.

McLays are proud to support Project Seagrass in their work to restore and conserve seagrass ecosystems.
